In a viral video with 51.7 million views, model and social media creator Nara Smith shared her hair growth recipe featuring the herbal plant; rosemary. This came after narrating a haircut disaster she experienced weeks ago.

"My bangs are a lot shorter than I want them, and the back of my head is something that I don't even wanna talk about. So in order to fix it, I need to make my hair grow as quickly as I can," said Mrs. Smith.

In the video, she demonstrated how she made her rosemary oil -- from scratch. First, she let the plant simmer in water for 15 minutes, let it cool, and transferred it to a spray bottle.

To make the hair oil, she used olive oil with rosemary sprigs, but avocado or coconut are also good alternatives, as per Nara. Next, she infused it in a double boiler for 45 minutes, before putting other ingredients like argan oil, jojoba, vitamin E, sweet almond, and peppermint oils and put it to another bottle.

She applied these two homemade products to her hair to help her hair grow faster after being made fun of in a video showing the back of her head on the video-sharing platform.

When her video went viral, a lot of her fans immediately followed her recipe, although some were skeptical about its effectiveness.

Rosemary was originally used as a food seasoning, but through the years, it is also been used for aromatic and medicinal purposes, such as for growing hair.

In a 2015 study, it was found that Rosemary has properties similar to Minoxidil, a drug used to treat alopecia or hair loss. However, improvements can be seen slowly, which may take up to six months.

It is also noted that Rosemary can cause skin allergy and other risks, thus, Dr. Nkem Ugunabo told Vogue that diluting is important. This practice was also shown by Nara, wherein she combined the Rosemary oil with other types of carrier oil.
